Midsummer Target Missed: Current weight = 86.4kg (190.4lbs)

Weighed in this morning. For the last week I have had a cold, and I am still in recovery, with a chesty cough. Also hayfever has been really bad. As a result - no exercise at all. Diet has been OK, although drifting from the low-card routine. But, managed to lose a little weight still.

My target for getting to 85kg was mid-summer, which is now almost a week gone. 1.4kg is not too bad though. Still managed to lose a total of 10.6kg so far. Need to start exercising. I think that I sand that last week.....

Two set backs to my fitness and weight loss plan

First set back is of a technical nature. For some reason, I lost some blog posts, so recent updates have vanished. This is really just annoying. The other set back has been my recent binging. I had a binge last weekend on my son's 1st birthday party, and another binge this weekend. I did lose 0.2kg (almost half a pound), weighing in at 86.4kg on Friday monring, but even so those two binges have not been good for my health, my fitness or my weight loss.

I did do some press ups the other evening. I did 20, and it felt much easier than the last time, so being 10kg lighter must have helped a lot. But other than that, I have not done much.

Week 15 - Continuing steady weight loss on Atkins - 86.6kg (190 pounds)

I am now into week 15 of the Motley Health Fitness and Weight Loss Plan. My total weight loss is now 10kg (22 pounds) and I have gone from a BMI of 32 to a BMI of 28.6.

Well, on Saturday morning I weighed in at 86.6kg. However, Saturday was my son's first birthday party, and it was a bit of a carb and sugar fest really. I think that by the end of the day, I had eaten:

1 bagel
4 scrambled eggs
rice
chilli con carne (my own fab recipe)
a piece of sponge cake with icing and jam filling
a few pieces of chocolate gateaux
a bowl of trifle
about 5 sausage rolls
a few mini onion bhajis, and some other Indian snacks
half a glass of beer
several glasses of red wine
handfuls of peanuts

Steady Weight Loss - 87.1kg (192 pounds)

This week I have managed to lose another kilo (2.2046 pounds). Weight loss is slow and steady. I think that I have done really well this week as I suffered from a throat infection, which was then followed by a virus that gave me really bad headaches, which was then followed by me feeling run down. So I have not done any exercise for over a week now, but have still lost another kilo.

Really the weight loss can only be attributed to the ongoing phase of Atkins, as I am still avoiding refined carbs and sugars where I can. Now eating more carbs, but trying to limit that to fruits and vegetables, mainly in stews and soups.

Have eaten some white bread and some potatoes, as we had no other food in the house. But mostly avoiding those danger foods.

Failed again, but still making progress - 88kg (194 lbs)

Had a funny few days. Last Wednesday I cam down with a throat infection which lasted until Saturday. As I was off work, I decided on Thursday night to do some weight training (I was getting bored doing nothing in the house) and also decided that rather than the usual clean and presses to start with, I would do a quick clean and press warm up, followed by SQUATS.

I only squatted a light weight, but concentrated on form. For the first time, I did full squats, i.e. squatted down until my thighs were parallel to the floor. I think I was using 50kg, but that was enough. I did a few sets of 8-10 reps.

Last Month's Progress - 11th April to 10th May - Photo Update!

The first picture is from 11th April, which was week 8 of my fitness plan, and also 4 days into the Atkins diet. The second photo is hot of the press from this evening, which is now week 12 of the plan. The angle of the shot is not quite the same, but I can see that progress is being made. I think that about 5kg (11 pounds) have been lost between the two shots.

The Motley Health Fitness and Weight Loss Plan is certainly working. Slow steady progress to losing weight and getting fit.

First Run For 2008..... and it felt good.

This evening I went for a run around the village. It was my first run since before Christmas, so I was not expecting to go far. I decided that I would do the short route, which usually takes about 15 minutes. But as I ran, I felt good. I actually felt fitter than I did the last time I ran. Obviously all my muscles were fresh, and I am about 7kg lighter. This must have helped a lot. I ended up running the "long" route, which is still only a few miles. It took me 29:26 minutes, which is a reasonable time for me.

Quick review of past times on this route (here's a map):

30 Dec 2007 - 32:03 minutes
11 Dec 2007 - 25:27 minutes
05 Dec 2007 - 27:40 minutes
24 Nov 2007 - 27:34 minutes

Week 12 - Weighed in at 89.1kg (196lbs)

Now in my twelfth week of the Motley Health Fitness and Weight Loss Plan, and the fourth week of the Atkins Diet. I weighed in this morning at a pleasing 89.1kg, so have lost another kilo (2 pounds) this week.

I have controlled my diet better at work. I have not exercised yet this week, but I have filled in a form for the 2008 Great Baddow Charity Fun Rn (2 miles). I was planning to do the full 10 mile run last year, but training was slack, and I am in no shape to run ten miles.

My wife bought my "Run Fat Boy Run" for my birthday last weekend, and that has motivated me a little more to take up running again. And the weather is nicer, so there is little excuse to not go running.

6 kilos (12 pounds) to go to reach my target weight of 85kg by mid-summer.

Today I run.

Slow Progress - Week 12 - 90kg

OK, I have had a bad week really. It has been a great test though. My in-laws left early yesterday morning,so the meals out, banquets and drinking sessions are over. I over-indulged a little at times with cakes, beer, carrots, and even some bread too on Sunday (2 burgers).

But, somehow, according to my scales this morning, I am down to 90kg. So those few sensible decisions over the last week must have helped. Generally avoiding bread, rice, pasta (the staple foods in the house over the last week) and sticking to lower carb meals, has worked.

Was back on track yesterday with a 3 egg breakfast and a chicken stew lunch and dinner. Just need to carry on, and get exercising again! Now time for work.

Week 11 - Weight=90.5kg (199.5 lbs) - And it is May already, Must Get fit for Summer

I am also on day 24 of Atkins. But, I have gained 200 grams (less than 1/2 a pound). It has been a poor week for both diet and exercises. I went to a Christening on Sunday, and ate about a ton of sugar, and drank some beer and wine, and ate potatoes. Then yesterday I ate a panini granola bar at Starbucks.

Back to the diet today. I do not think tha t I have had too many extra carbs in the last week, but I have not lost any weight.
